Book of Poseidon Review

The Book of ... mechanic genre is filled to the brim with more or less standard Ra clones, but some developers take their time to come up with new and interesting twists to the standard ‘Book of’ formula. Book of Poseidon is, unfortunately, not such a game, and it’s basically a reskin of Booming Games’ own ‘Book slot’ debut, Book of Tombs, with a few very minor tweaks to the math model.

To be fair, neither of the games are actually Book of Ra clones, but rather Legacy of Dead copycats. The barebones base game is as tedious as ever, with a static subsea backdrop where not even a bubble is rising towards the surface. You get the possibility of unlimited bonus round retriggers, and each retrigger gives you an additional chosen expanding symbol. The 5,000x potential is standard stuff, but the 95.68 % RTP is below par.

The 4 premium symbols, or Majors as they are called here, pay between 60 and 500 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and Poseidon himself is the top-tier symbol. The Book symbol serves double duty as both Wild and Scatter, and as a wild it steps in for all regular pay symbols to help complete winning combinations.

Review Summary

Book of Poseidon is pretty close to being a reskin of Booming’s ‘Book of’ mechanic debut, the less-than-memorable Book of Tombs. The below par 95.68 % RTP is a tad higher, and the standard 5,000x potential is slightly lower. Other than that, this is a very standard ‘Book of’ installment with a twist we’ve seen countless times before, and the rather static and boring visual presentation didn’t do much for us either.

The base game is a tedious grind, like is the case with many similar games, and how the bonus round plays out is largely dependent on two things. We are, of course, referring to which chosen symbol you get at first, and also how many times you manage to retrigger the feature to get new expanding symbols. The top-tier symbol can crack the potential from a single spin, which is usually the case in book slots, but this is overall a very mediocre and uninspired release.
