Sorcerers Guild of Magic Review
Magic and sorcery have been captivating people for thousands of years. In the last couple of decades, the incredible success of movies like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings has further proven our fascination and attraction with the inexplicable. Sorcerers Guild of Magic from Playtech takes you on a mystical slots journey and will have you mesmerized and entertained.
The magical action takes place on a 5x3 reel setup. In the background is an ornate library, which looks like something you would find at Hogwarts. The game has 10 fixed paylines, however during one of the special features it does increase to 20, but more about that shortly. The RTP is a respectable 96.09% and the variance is high. The symbols include various lower paying-coloured vials, and the higher paying symbols include a gold ring, earrings, necklace, amulet and a young lady that is the top paying regular symbol.
There is also a Wild, which is the top paying special symbol.Sorcerers Guild of Magic Slot Reel ScreenSorcerers Guild of Magic Features
Elemental Respins
Similar Slots:
The core bonus feature of this slot is the Elemental Respins, however, there are various components of that have unique characteristics. In essence, whenever one or more Sorcerers land in view, a respin is awarded. Depending on which Sorcerer landed, each one offers a different reward for their respective respin, as follows:
- Nature Sorcerer (Green) - appears only on reel 1 and he transforms one of the jewel symbols into a wild.
- Fire Sorcerer (Orange) – appears on reel 2 and awards a multiplier up to 10x.
- Wind Sorcerer (Cyan) – occurs on reel 3 and increases the paylines from 10 to 20.
- Water Sorcerer (Blue) – occurs on reel 4 and removes one of the lower-paying vial symbols from the reels.
- Arcane Sorcerer (Purple) – appears on reel 5 and awards an additional respin.
When multiple, different sorcerers appear in combinations, then the following occurs:
- If the Arcane Sorcerer lands before, during or after any other Sorcerer, it then activates the other Sorcerer’s bonus.
- If there are various active bonuses, then the Arcane Sorcerer randomly awards one of the bonuses.
- When the Nature and Arcane Sorcerers appear together, then an additional jewel symbol is transformed into a Wild.
- The Fire and Arcane Sorcerer together results in the multiplier being doubled.
- The Cyan and Arcane combined activate paylines in both directions in contrast to the base game where the paylines only pay from left to right.
- When the Water and Arcane Sorcerer appear together, an additional lower-paying vial symbol is removed from the reels.
Sorcerers Guild of Magic – 200 Spins Experience
To experience the magic for ourselves, we took Sorcerers Guild of Magic for a solid 200 spins. Things started rather well, with a winning combination after a handful of spins and the Arcane Sorcerer landing on reel 5, which activated the Elemental Respins. Unfortunately, the respin didn’t bring any payouts and we continued playing.
Spin after spin, nothing happened, not even a basic combination and things were looking rather disappointing. Then a combination landed with the Nature, Water and Arcane Sorcerers appearing on their respective reels which activated the Elemental Respins. Due to the multiple sorcerers on the reels, the Arcane awarded the Water Sorcerer’s power and removed all red vials from the reels. The resulting respin then awarded a fair payout of 80 (20x our stake). Things then took a turn in the opposite direction and it was downhill from there, and even when we triggered the Elemental Respins a few more times, it delivered little to no payouts.Review Summary
When the game launched and the intro screens showed the key features, and we glanced through the paytable and help file, we really had high hopes for Sorcerers Guild of Magic. But that’s where the magic ended. The imagery, animations and overall feel are lacklustre and it is hard to believe this slot was released in 2021 and not 10 years ago. The sound effects are also rather “last year” and the fact there are no sounds or music between spins is a pity.
When it comes to playing, the high volatility is rather evident and dry spells seem to last forever. The Elemental Respins also proved to be somewhat of a disappointment. Occasionally the feature would trigger, and we would get our hopes up for some decent payouts, but the respin would take place and still no “magic”, not even a consolation prize. Overall, this slot is nothing to get excited about and an industry titan like Playtech can certainly do better than this.Pros
- Interesting theme
- Simple to play
Cons
- High volatility
- Poor graphics
- Limited features despite the plethora of variations to the Elemental Respins
